Westlake Hockey Tour
"E ngā rau rangatira mā, ka maumahara koutou ki tēnei kōrero. Ehara taku toa I te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini.
Success is not the work of one but the work of many."
The Westlake Boys High School Hockey programme is taking two teams to Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands in April 2025.
These boys love hockey, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience hockey in some of the biggest hockey nations. The boys will play games against local club teams, get coaching in each country, and compete against teams from around the world in the prestigious JIPHT International Youth Hockey Easter Tournament in The Hague. They’ll also experience some amazing educational and cultural experiences throughout the tour.
This is the Tour page to make it easy for people to get involved, sign up, and support the various events the boys are doing as part of their fundraising.

For our first major fundraiser, which took place on Matariki Friday, 28th June, our young men pushed themselves by playing hockey for 24 hours straight!
They opened up the event to as many people as possible to ‘join them on the turf’ at North Harbour Hockey #5.
We kicked off the day with a ‘Hit a Goal Past the Teachers’ session, with Paul Fordham (WBHS Associate Principal) and Holly Pearson (WGHS teacher and ex Black Stick forward) donning the goalie gear for our cause. On the turf, there were games between Westlake Boys and Westlake Girls, bringing to life the inclusive nature of hockey. There was a much-anticipated battle between the Tour Boys and a Teachers and Westlakers (ex-students) team – plenty of banter there! Around 50 youngsters joined us to give hockey a go and/or to improve their skills with coaching from our Tour Boys. We were incredibly fortunate to have three ex-Black Sticks (Casey Henwood, Shaun Barnett and George Muir) and a Future Black Stick (Georgie Shotter) who gave their time and expertise to run specialist coaching, attended by around 50 fortunate young people. We also had an expert goalie coaching session with Simon Galt. We hosted a Fast 5’s Tournament with 6 teams showing us their skills as well as a Glow in the Dark game under the Matariki Stars. Off the turf, there was a hockey stick design and colouring-in competition for the youngsters – congratulations to our winner Rosa. We had a book sale, BBQ, cake stall, cold drinks, and fantastic hot coffee and iced chocolate courtesy of Vibe Coffee Roasters. A busy and successful 24 hours of crazy hockey fun, supported by so many amazing people.

Get your night vision out, bring out the fluros, and get amongst it with night-time hockey fun.
Enter a team or as an individual to join our boys on one of four 30 minute ½ turf 7-aside games. Anyone 14 years and older.
BYO stick and mouthguard. The glow in the dark ball is pretty soft, so shinpads are not compulsory. Fluro bits and pieces will be available to ‘brighten up your stick and yourself’. First two games at 10.15pm, next two at 10.45pm. Plenty of opportunity to look up and enjoy the Matariki stars!
You’ll have to park in the main NHHA carpark and walk around to Harbour #5 because the access gates will be locked by 10pm, so please allow a little extra time for walking across and get your self ready to ‘glow’.
